La Selva is the southernmost of Girona's regions and is characterised by its abundant water resources.
The contrast between the salt and fresh water is at the heart of one of the region's most exceptional attractions: the Santa Clotilde, Pinya de Rosa and Marimurtra botanical gardens.
But one cannot leave the Selva region without first discovering the magic of the castle and the Vila Vella or old quarter of Tossa de Mar.
Our selection of places for you to visit going down the coast:
Tossa de Mar is a beautiful town with cobbled streets, a magnificent ancient castle and a beautiful mountainous hinterland with lush green valleys, gorges and natural springs. There's a bustling beach life in this attractive resort that appeals to couples and families rather than all night revellers.
Medieval Tossa dates back to the year 966 and in 1187 the castle was built on the headland to defend the town against sea borne invaders. Today it's invaded by foreign tourists who delight in the sense of history and wonderful views from the highest point of this ancient town.
Lloret de Mar is a coastal town where we will find mass tourism. You will find neon lights, night clubs, lots of people walking day and night and very full beaches. Young people love this place.
Water World is one of the best water parks in La Costa Brava. A day to have fun for the little ones and not so little. Giant slides, rapid rivers, minigolf, restaurants?
Blanes is a place where you will find mass tourism. If you want a little intimacy you should go to "las Calas": Cala San Francesc, Playa de Santa Cristina or Boadella.
Garden Marimurtra was found in 1921 by the German scientist Kart Faust. It is one of the most important biological stations in the Mediterranean Sea. The garden contents more than 3.000 different Mediterranean exotic plants. Marvellous.
Breda si a little village is famous for its "ollas" (Ceramic pottery). A tradition that goes back to the XVI Century. It is essential to own one if you want to prepare "suquets". A small souvenir that is not expensive.
The irresistible visit of the Montserrat Monastery and Penedès vineyards!
