Combining straight lines and curves in a continuous dialogue between the interior spaces and the light outside, the building, inaugurated in 1995, is a work by Richard Meier. It's about what is more interesting in this museum.
MACBA (Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum) is dedicated to works from the second half of the 20th century. There are few works in the permanent collection and once in a while interesting temporary exhibitions.

In1959 the art critic Alexandre Cirici Pellicer believed in the need to create a Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona.
Between 1960 and 1963, Cirici and Cesáreo Rodríguez Aguilera headed a group of individuals who began to put together a collection with the objective of constituting the basis for the future museum. In February 1963, the opening of the exhibition El arte y la paz, with a clear political commitment, exposed the narrow limits of what was then permissible.
In 1986 Barcelona City Council, invited the North American architect Richard Meier to take charge of the project for the new museum. The City Council's Department of Culture commissioned the art critics Francesc Miralles and Rosa Queralt to draw up a report which would serve to define the philosophy of the future museum. In 1987 the MACBA Foundation brought private enterprise into the project. The MACBA was officially inaugurated on the 28th of November of 1995.

A wonderful museum with a lot of different subjects. Tha paintings of Louis Claramunt were a eyeopener. Another highlight were the foto's of Barcelona in the period 1977 to 1982. Loved the exhibition of the Ibiza event in 1971. Good documentation, lovely music and top relaxing possibilities.

Musée d'art moderne de Barcelone en pleine saison touristique en août à ne pas visiter ( perte de temps et d'argent)
Musée quasiment vide en dehors de hauts murs blancs ou sont affichés des dessins "d'enfants" mais sûrement pas "d'artistes"

Bonjour, voilà ces derniers temp je suis aller au musée de macba et je regrette malheuresement. le musée manque de couleur a l'interieure mais pas mal de luminosité sa pique au yeux on va dire. donc pas agréable de regarder le hall du musée mais parcontre l'éxterieure du musée je trouve sa moderne avec les sclupture blanche et le verre sa rend pas mal et agréable a regarder et à prendre de superbe photos sinon je reste déçu dans l'ensemble (manque de couleur, espace trés lumineux...)

C'est un très grand bâtiment avec beaucoup de classe architecturale, avec extrêmement beaucoup de choses à découvrir! Après, il faut aimer passer des heures entières à arpenter les nombreuses salles et les trois riches étages sans saturer! Les nouvelles acquisitions sous le thème de "Time as matter", Hans Haacke, Matt Mulican, le mouvement Pop européen, Robert Smithson... Une très bonne expérience!
La plaça del Angels juste devant est toujours remplie de skaters d'un assez bon niveau, une bonne chose à voir pour les amateurs de la board! Vous verrez du monde se faire filmer sur des spots dans toute la ville.
Have a good time in Barça, and be careful of ton sac, les pickpocketas tournent! Barcelona est sacrément spéciale!

j'arpentais ce musée mardi dernier, une petite merveille architecturale qui renferme des pointures en tant qu'artistes contemporain. excusez moi du peu mais je déambulai tout de meme entre des oeuvres de Buren, Warhol, dubuffet, Miro, etc...jugement donc à revoir quand à la pauvritude du contenant de ce musée!

viens de voir une tres bonne expo sur peinture apres guerre etats Unis... France... kandinsky, pollock, van bramvelde, koening, chillida.
et en tant aue lieu, c est hors du temps"
