Airside
Where can you smoke in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2?
The airport's three smoking areas are open-air terraces in the boarding area. So you reach them with your boarding pass, once you have cleared the security control.
To find them, open Aena's interactive airport map and search for "smoking": the three areas appear on the map, each with a route to get there.
Terminal 1
Two terraces, in the north and south courtyards
T1 has two terraces on level 1, the boarding gate level: one in the north courtyard, the other in the south courtyard.
- each has its own smoking area and a restaurant;
- one of the two also has a pet area, with a water fountain and a bin.
Terminal 2
A terrace next to the S gates
T2 has one terrace on level 1, in the boarding area, next to the S gates. Opened in December 2022, it covers 688 m² and has:
- a smoking area;
- a restaurant;
- a 31 m² area for pets in transit.
T2 does have a smoking area. Before December 2022 it had none, and many forums and guides still say so.
Before you go through security
Can you smoke before the security control?
Yes, but only outdoors. Spanish law bans smoking in airports, except in open-air spaces: in the arrivals and check-in halls, it is not allowed.
Allow enough time
- if you want a cigarette outside the terminal, have it before the security control: once through, you would have to go back out and queue for security again;
- after security, your terminal's terrace is not necessarily near your gate: leave a margin before boarding.
Buying cigarettes: the T1 tobacconist
The airport has a tobacconist (estanco) in Terminal 1, landside, so before the security control. It is outdoors, between La Plaza, in the arrivals hall, and the T1 surface car park. It is open from 07:00 to 22:00.
To find your way around levels and gates, see the maps on our arrivals, departures and terminals page.
