Terminal 1 and Terminal 2
Where to catch the metro at Barcelona Airport
Each terminal has its own station: Aeroport T1 at Terminal 1 and Aeroport T2 at Terminal 2, both on level 0, the arrivals level. There is no need to take the shuttle between terminals to find the metro: it is right there in yours.
T1 or T2: which comes first?
Aeroport T1 is the end of the line on L9S. Coming from the city, the metro stops first at Aeroport T2, then continues to T1. Check your terminal on your boarding pass before you get off: it depends on your airline.
Through the suburbs before the city
Between the airport and Barcelona, the L9 Sud runs through El Prat de Llobregat and L’Hospitalet. It serves the trade fair grounds, with Fira and Europa | Fira stations, then joins the city network at Torrassa, Collblanc and Zona Universitària, its northern terminus.

The airport metro catch
Which metro ticket for Barcelona Airport, and how much does it cost?
The airport metro requires an Airport ticket at €5.90, twice the price of a single ticket. It is an individual ticket for one journey, from the airport to any metro station or the other way round. It is not integrated: it stops being valid when you exit the metro, and cannot be used to change onto a bus or train.
Single ticket and T-casual: not accepted at the airport
The €2.90 single ticket and the T-casual, the 10-journey card at €13, are valid along the whole L9 Sud line, except at Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 stations, both on the way in and on the way out. If you reach the airport with one of them, you will have to buy an Airport ticket to get through the ticket barriers. The same rule applies to the T-grup and the T-familiar.
Tickets that are accepted
- the Hola Barcelona card, for 1 to 5 days, which includes one journey to and one from the airport;
- the T-dia, from €12, which allows one journey to the airport and one from the airport on the same day;
- the T-usual (30 days, personal), the T-jove and the T-70/90, designed for residents.
Where to buy it
At the ticket machines in the airport stations, which sell the Airport ticket and the other tickets, as well as online and in the TMB app. The Airport ticket can be refunded within 24 hours of purchase.

The T-casual is still valid on the R2 Nord train and on bus 46 to the airport.

Changing lines
Where to change lines to reach your neighbourhood
The L9 Sud does not serve central Barcelona: it ends at Zona Universitària, at the top of Avinguda Diagonal. TMB quotes 32 minutes from the airport to the city. Add the change and the journey on the second line, which depend on where you are going.
The three connections
- at Torrassa, the L1 goes to Plaça Espanya, Universitat, Plaça Catalunya and Arc de Triomf: the quickest way to the centre;
- at Collblanc, the L5 goes to Sants Estació, Diagonal and the Sagrada Família;
- at Zona Universitària, the L3 goes to Sants Estació, Plaça Espanya, Paral·lel, Liceu on Las Ramblas, Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia.
A fourth connection, at Can Tries | Gornal with the L10 Sud, mainly serves L’Hospitalet. The Airport ticket covers these changes, as long as you do not exit the metro.
In the other direction
To get to the airport, go to one of these three stations, take the L9 Sud towards Aeroport T1 and get off at Aeroport T2 or Aeroport T1, depending on your terminal.

Before you head down to the metro
Luggage, reduced mobility and mistakes to avoid
With luggage
TMB has no specific rules on luggage in the metro. Even so, the journey involves a change, and lines L1, L3 and L5 are crowded at the morning and evening rush hours: with large suitcases, avoid those times or choose the Aerobús shuttle, which has a dedicated luggage area.
Reduced mobility
According to TMB, 156 of the 165 metro stations have lifts. Their status is shown in real time on each station’s page on the TMB website: check your connecting station before you set off.
Common mistakes
- Validating a T-casual at the airport: it is rejected at the ticket barriers of Aeroport T1 and T2 stations.
- Throwing your ticket away after the barrier: keep it until you exit, because at the airport stations the barriers check it on the way out too.
- Getting off at Aeroport T2 when your flight leaves from T1, or the other way round: check your terminal on your boarding pass.
- Relying on the metro for a 06:00 flight on a weekday: the first metro leaves the end of the line at around 05:00.
- Mixing up the metro and the Aerobús shuttle: neither the Airport ticket nor the Hola card is valid on the shuttle.

Take the L9 Sud to Torrassa, then the L1 to Catalunya. You can also change at Zona Universitària for the L3, which runs via Las Ramblas before Catalunya. The Airport ticket covers the change.
TMB quotes 32 minutes from the airport to the city on the L9 Sud. Add the change and the journey on the L1, L3 or L5, depending on your neighbourhood. For a direct journey, the Aerobús shuttle takes 30 to 35 minutes to Plaça Catalunya.

Go to Torrassa (L1), Collblanc (L5) or Zona Universitària (L3), take the L9 Sud towards Aeroport T1, and get off at Aeroport T2 or Aeroport T1 depending on your terminal. From Sants Estació, take the L5 to Collblanc. The R2 Nord train is more direct, but it only serves T2.

Yes: El Prat de Llobregat is one of the municipalities covered by the metropolitan fare, where you pay the price of one zone. But at the airport metro stations, the single ticket and the T-casual do not work: you need the Airport ticket, the T-dia, the Hola card or a ticket such as the T-usual. On the R2 Nord train, a zone 1 ticket is enough.
