Best Bars in Barcelona

When it comes to going out, Barcelona is known for its tapas bars, its cafés with their wonderful terraces and its "chocolaterias", but it also boasts an impressive range of nightlife venues, mainly more typical bars such as "coctelerías" (cocktail bars), "whiskerias", "xampanyerias" (bars where you can taste Cava, the Catalan Champagne), the increasingly fashionable craft beer bars, sublime wine bars and, last but not least, the great Catalan classic, "go to the vermuteria", where you can taste what is considered here to be the best of the best: vermouth!

Barcelona's best cocktail bars

It's been a long time since the cocktail craze hit Barcelona. Old-timers remember Gimlet, Mirablau and Pipa Club. These bars smelled of jazz, novels and classics such as Pink Lady and Whisky Sour. Back then, bartenders were still on a first-name basis. Those days are gone, and all the better for it, because Barcelona has made a real leap forward in this area. After the mad wave of the discovery of Gin Tonic in all its forms and at all prices, we now speak of "mixology", and bartenders are stars, or at least artists. With them, we discover new spirits from far and wide, and hitherto unknown flavors. These bars are now as beautiful as they are warm, musical and often perfect for dancing. Cocktails have never been so inspired and sophisticated, and with no surprises they've won awards at the highest international level, such as Paradiso and Sips. In short, it's impossible to imagine an evening out in Barcelona without discovering these places. Here are 4 of our favorite cocktail bars. You can trust us!

  • Barcelona's vermouth bars

In Spain, it was the Catalan town of Reus that began producing the country's first vermouths with the Yzaguirre brand in 1884. Today, Reus remains a symbol of vermut quality. Vermut has become an essential drink in Catalonia, where it is particularly popular. In Barcelona, vermut hour is a special time. Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., locals often gather in bars to enjoy a vermut before lunch. It's a great way to cool down on a hot summer's day and share a convivial moment.

Vermut is usually served on the rocks, with a slice or zest of orange or lemon, in a small glass. It can be found in a wide range of establishments, from small market bars to vermuterias and gourmet restaurants, where it is served in cocktails. A favorite vermut: the "Fot-Li" from Reus!

  • Going out in Barcelona: The best typical bars

Things are becoming increasingly mixed in Barcelona. Every restaurant now offers cocktails and doesn't hesitate to set the dancefloor on fire... It's enough to make you lose your Catalan! This is often a commercial approach, even if we recognize the talent of some to create new atmospheres. For us, discovering Barcelona means stepping back in time and going to typical places, or to modern venues that only exist in Barcelona.  It's also a nice change of scenery. So here's another idea for a night out, with this small selection of typical Barcelona bars.
