
Hotels in Barcelona beat all records in 2015
The city recorded more than 7 million passengers and almost 18.5 million overnight stays
Barcelona closed 2015 with an absolute record of tourists in the hotel establishments of the city. According to data from the Survey of Hotel Occupancy, Barcelona had a total of 7,093,372 people, who consumed 18,475,964 overnight stays last year. With these records, Barcelona beats the previous historic record, which was established in 2011, when it hosted 6.9 million passengers.
Data from 2015 indicate an increase of 5.9 percent in both nights as weel as tourists, compared to 2014. Most of the customers, 79.7% are foreigners, although in the last year the number of people from Spain increased in almost 70,000.
Ranking visitors from abroad is headed by Americans, with nearly 620,000 people, followed by the British (614,000), the French (579,000), Italians (462,000) and Germans (426,000). A fact not less striking has been the expected fall in the number of Russian tourists by almost 30 percent.
