El Xampanyet

El Xampanyet

El Xampanyet is the bar from El Born district that has been conserved as how real old bars in Barcelona were. It is from the 1929!

Easy to find.. just next to Picasso Museum

Its name come from the wine they serve there: a sparkling wine called Xampanyet.

As you know, Barcelona typical old bars where a place to spend time with friends having some tapas and drinking some beer and wine. So it's this place: tapas, cheeses, Jabugo ham and quite a lot of noise due to its small and crouded place, usually.

Excellent quality!!

You can't book, so don't be late!

a great address
Our meal at this charming restaurant was marked by exquisite dishes, including chuletón as a main course and innovative starters such as wild boar mortadella. The attentive service and unique desserts, although limited in choice, completed a memorable culinary experience.

El Xampanyet is one of the best tapas bar in town.. Just next to Picasso Museum, it's crowded but stay at the bar and enjoy best tapas around, lovely people, great quality food. Have just a beer and few tapas and feel like a local.

  4. Tourist Place - Daniel (11 Feb 2014 - 14:45)

This place used to be good. Let's say before 2006. Then they realized that they could overcharge tourist for their good but basic food.

Poor value, but good for tourists.

  5. Xampanyet... - ib (26 Apr 2013 - 20:15)

The sparkling wine is not called Xampanyet - its name is 'xampany' which is the Catalan term for cava.

  8. El Xampanyet tapas bar - Steph, UK (29 May 2012 - 14:45)

Was there twice last weekend, fantastic place, on the same road as the Picasso museum which is signposted frequently so easy to find. Tiny little place, always busy and noisy, friendly but efficient staff, older guy (I think the owner?) loving chatting to the customers and obviously taking great pride in the place. We had a stack of tapas (potatoes stuffed with garlic mayonnaise, marinated anchovies, squid, tortilla, chorizo, pan tomates, ham on toasted bread, tiny sardines) 2 beers, 2 cava and an amazing pudding - a plate of biscotti and a to-die-for cake with sweet wine to dip in. Cost E30 which I didn't think was bad, certainly no rip off. Mainly full of Spanish when we were there but the staff speak decent English, combined with pointing/smiling/nodding etc - we got there! Would recommend highly.

  9. Xampanyet - Joe (27 Dec 2011 - 18:45)

This is the correct address for Xampanyet. You are thinking of a different cava bar in Barceloneta.

  10. Wrong address - Healeyman (30 Sep 2011 - 09:15)

Calle de la Reina Cristina, Barceloneta, is the correct address, guys!

  11. El Xampanyet - Eduardo (24 Sep 2011 - 16:15)

Coincido con María. El bar al que hacéis referencia, está en la Calle de la Reina Cristina, junto a la Plaza Palacio. Sería onveniente que se aclarara. Saludos.

  16. Best tapas in my whole life!! - Nicole (6 Oct 2010 - 00:00)

Very typical, very tasty, a real MUST!! We ordered "a little bit of everything" and got various tapas. I loved the potatoes filled with aioli, the marinated salmon, the omelette, these spicy meatballs.... everything! Even though the bar is really full you should wait and try the tapas!!

  17. essence of Barcelona - pet (20 Aug 2010 - 01:15)

it's not a rip-off... you are stupid (last comment) go to mac something thing and leave us going to this great tapas bar... El Xampanyet is just essence of Barcelona... great people, great fun.. love in the air..

  18. It´s a rip-off - Warning!!! (16 Nov 2009 - 18:15)

The bar was full of people reading travel guides and it sure shows on the prices. They don´t have prices posted anywhere and a waiter will recommend you to order a mixed tapas. You´ll get a small plate of cheese, some sausage, a few pieces of bread and tey will charge more than 20 euros for it. You can get so much more at any of the places nearby. It´s a total rip-off. Avoid at all cost.

  19. A eviter absolument!!! - jipesteph (11 May 2009 - 13:39)

  22. El Xampanyet - trees (3 Oct 2008 - 22:38)
