Zoo de Barcelona

The zoo in Barcelona is located in the city park. Ranked among the top zoos in Spain, has open enclosures, allowing you to almost touch the animals. There is a infant zoo where children can be introduced to various animals.
A train runs round the park or you can hire an electric buggy if you wish. As well as a wide selection of animals and birds, the zoo offers special displays of reptiles such as iguanas and chameleons. The zoo was founded in 1892 and is one of the oldest and most modern in the world. The zoo prides itself on its humane facilities and habitats for the wild animals. The dolphins appear to be very content and love to perform at the glass windows of the pool. There are also regular displays in the indoor aquarium where members of the audience are invited to interact with the dolphins. Expect to get wet if you sit at the front.

Avoid barcelona Zoo
N Din (3 Feb 2014 - 08:45)
I visited this zoo on the 28.1.2014. As an animal lover I was extremely shocked and left traumatised by the conditions that the animals were kept in. Small concrete pens with no stimulation. The rhino a magnificent animal kept in a concrete pen smaller than my garden! Very large Birds of prey kept in groups in pens the size of postage stamps. Barcelona is a wonderful city and should be ashamed at the manner in which the animals are kept. This is 2014 not the dark ages. I will never visit a zoo again. Avoid this zoo if you have an ounce of humanity. People who have written positive reviews - open your eyes!

  3. Enclosures too small - British Visitor (29 Nov 2013 - 09:45)

We finally got around to visiting the zoo this summer on our third visit to Barcelona. However, I was very disappointed. The enclosures are far too small for some of the animals and they looked unhappy. I would not recommend anyone going here. There are so many other attractions in Barcelona that you do not need to waste your money coming here. I agree with a previous comment that they should concentrate on smaller animals, but I suppose they wouldn't be such a draw for the tourists. Not recommended.

  5. zoo - irish tourist (5 Apr 2013 - 09:15)

absolute disgrace the size of most of the enclosures , how animal rights groups are not trying to close this place down i do not know . sad ending to a great trip

  12. The Barcelona Zoo - Finnish traveller (11 Sep 2011 - 11:15)

There were some big animals, especially mammals (for example rhino, hippos, elephants) whose enclosures were too small. I think Barcelona zoo should focus on such species which are smaller, because the zoo is not very big. Otherwise the zoo seemed to be well-kept. Some visitors were feeding apes with candy - this should be forbidden.
