Tomorrow and the next 15 days

When to Visit
The best compromise comes in three months: May, June, and September. The air is warm without being overwhelming, the days are long, and you can walk all day without seeking shade. If you had to choose just one, it would be June: 271 hours of sunshine, three days of rain on average, and the sea already at 22°C.
June or September? Both have the same afternoon temperature, 27°C. What sets them apart is the water and the sky. September boasts the most pleasant sea of the year at 25°C, but it's also the return of the rains: 68 mm and six days of rain, compared to 25 mm and three days in June. June for the sun, September for swimming.
May is a delightful trap. The air is ideal at 22°C with as much sunshine as in June, but the sea is only 18°C. An excellent month for the city, its terraces, and parks; reserve the beach for the bravest.
July and August require planning. August has fifteen days above 30°C, compared to nine during the 1991-2020 period, nights that don't drop below 23°C, and a record high of 34°C. In return, the sea reaches its peak at 26°C, and the city empties out: Barcelonans leave, traffic decreases, and neighborhoods find a calmer pace. Plan museum visits in the afternoon and walks before 11 a.m. or after 7 p.m.
Winter is underrated. January has 120 hours of sunshine and only three days of rain, with afternoon temperatures reaching 15°C. It's not much for swimming, but it's plenty for visiting: no queues, no heat, and accommodation rates at their lowest of the year.
A misconception to correct: it doesn't rain in winter in Barcelona, it rains in the fall. October is the wettest month of the year with 76 mm, followed by September. December and January are among the driest.

Weather in Barcelona: Frequently Asked Questions
June: It's the driest month of the year, with an average of three rainy days, 271 hours of sunshine, and the sea already at 22°C, without the fifteen days over 30°C that August brings. September follows closely, with the warmest sea of the year but the return of rain: 68 mm compared to 25 in June. May rounds out the trio for the city rather than the beach, with its sea remaining at 18°C.
Two rules apply all year round. Bring a light layer regardless of the forecast: the sea breeze picks up in the evening, and the temperature difference between afternoon and night can reach 8°C in summer. Also, plan to cover your shoulders for the Sagrada Familia and other churches, as they do not allow entry in sleeveless tops.
From June to September: light clothing, a hat, and walking shoes, as the stone and asphalt retain heat well after sunset. From October to April, a jacket and a sweater are usually sufficient, with a light raincoat in October and November, the wettest months. In January and February, expect 15°C in the afternoon but 6°C at night: a coat is justified in the evening, but not at noon.
The water averages 18°C, which is still cool for most swimmers. The sea only exceeds 22°C from June onwards, and stays that way until October. In May, the city and its terraces are more appealing than the beach: the month boasts as much sunshine as June, with 271 hours.
August has fifteen days with temperatures above 30 °C, compared to nine during the 1991-2020 period, and nights that don't drop below 23 °C. This remains manageable by planning your day: visits and museums during the hottest hours, walking before 11 AM or after 7 PM. In return, the sea reaches its peak at 26 °C, and the city empties of its residents.
The figure is displayed at the top of this page, below the temperature, and it is updated every two hours. The perceived temperature combines the thermometer, humidity, and wind. In Barcelona, the seaside humidity pushes it above the measured value in summer: a day at 30°C can feel like 35. In winter, it's the opposite, as the inland wind makes it drop below the thermometer reading.
Not much, and not in the season you might expect. The city experiences 49 rainy days per year, totaling 544 mm. The wettest months are October, with 76 mm, and September, with 68 mm. December and January are among the driest months of the year.
Mild and bright. January boasts 15°C in the afternoon, 120 hours of sunshine, and only three days of rain, with nights around 6°C. It's not beach season, but it's a great time for visiting: no queues, no heat, and the lowest hotel rates of the year.
The first four or five days are reliable. Beyond ten days, the values indicate a trend rather than a forecast: they help identify a pattern, not to plan an outing. Our forecasts come from Open-Meteo and are updated every two hours.
