"Originally called " Cafè de les 7 Portes", this establishment opened in 1836. Today the most classic of Barcelona's eating-places. This is certainly the city's most famous paella, which is always perfect. Try also seafood and rice dishes prepared in traditional way like Fideu with prawns, Barcelona rice with ham and cheese, assorted grilled inshore fish or the Zarzuela with lobster...Very large place but regularly full.

the worst paella: no fish in it only calamares and badly mussles
oil is not forgotten!
smiles over the face of waiters!!! it is only a dream!
the crema catalana is a flan: the best ones were at the calcadores!!!! for the same price it is the best!

BEST PAELLA?
WORST PAELLA..!!

I MUST CONFESS TO BEING SOMEWHAT OF A PAELLA ADDICT, I HAVE SAMPLED PAELLA ALL OVER (MOST NOTEABLY IN VALENCIA, THE HOME OF PAELLA), WITHOUT QUESTION THE VERY WORST I HAVE EVER HAD WAS AT SET PORTES.

SET PORTES IS AN INSTITUTION, IT'S STILL WORTH A VISIT, PICK ANYTHING ELSE AND YOU PROBABLY WONT BE DISAPPOINTED. WHATEVER YOU CHOSE JUST DO NOT OPT FOR THE PAELLA.

We spent there some nice hours, our starters were tasty, -
like the cava and bottle of wine.
we had a very good and fresh tasting huge paella (the seafood paella for two), we liked it very much, restaurant was full of natives, the restaurant accept email booking what is a big advantage because there can be long lines on weekends. Our service was professional and attentive. For dessert I had a dark chocolat sorbet (really made from water and a lot of dark chocolate) the taste of cacao hmmm.

locale molto carino, il mangiare dalla paella al dolce é veramente buono, prezzi medio alti (basandosi su barcellona)si puo' cosigliare a tutti,

Was there on the 8th of June 2007.Must say I have to agree – the place is totally overrated! Extremely expensive! My dish wasn’t bad, taste wise. My wife’s could have been better!
But then I find that most of the restaurants in where the tourists come are overrated and much to expensive. Yes and most of the waiters have no idea of customer service!

I just have to say.. BEST PAELLA? Are you kidding? The ingredients were cheap and I thought it had a nasty taste. I was right. I got a serious case of food poisoning. It put me under for over a week. It was horrible. I now have such a taste aversion that I will never be able to eat paella again.
The waiters are rude and my partner wasn't impressed with his meal either.
It probably used to be a great place, but time has caught up. It is expensive and unpleasant. People might like the venue, which is beautiful, the food on the other hand. A disgrace.
